Fausttophel: Thirst of oblivion
02/01/14 || gk
“Thirst of oblivion” is the debut album from this Ukranian melodic black metal band. Fausttophel mixes some pretty generic black and death metal riffs with a keen ear for melody and some nicely executed female vocals. Occasionally, thanks to the female vocals, the band takes on a folk vibe which sounds melancholic and works quite well. The operatic vocals over fast blasting parts work quite well too.
Overall, this band needs to come up with better metal parts to be truly noteworthy. At the moment they sound like they’re trying to follow in the footsteps of Nokturnal Mortum but they’re not good enough to pull that off. Still, fans of this kind of melodic black metal with female vocals may find something to like here.
6,5/10: Off to a promising start.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
